Access and Mobility

We welcome people of all abilities and hope the garden provides a place of enjoyment for everyone.

Getting around

We have a network of pathways suitable for wheelchair access. These are shown as the wide white path on our Garden Map PDF, 76 KB.

The best entry for wheelchairs is via Murphys Avenue.

Please note, we do have some steeper gradients at the Northfields Avenue entry which may not be suitable without assistance for non-motorised wheelchairs.

Parking

Accessible parking bays are provided at Murphys Avenue car park and Madoline Street (open on weekends only).

Accessible toilets

There is one accessible toilet at the Murphys Avenue entry. An updated toilet with lift and change facilities is planned for the garden in 2023-24.

A second accessible toilet is located at the Towri Centre (with ramp access).

Mobility scooter hire

Mobility Scooters are currently unavailable for hire due to water damage following the recent weather event.

Need a bit of help exploring the Garden? Our two free mobility scooters are available to hire for visitors who are less mobile. They can be used along our main pathways (shown on our map PDF, 76 KB), which cover a large part of the Garden.

Scooters need to be pre-booked, and are available weekdays between 9am and 4pm.

To book a mobility scooter, call (02) 4227 7667 or email us at least 24 hours before the time you wish to use the scooter.

Here's what others had to say:

"Yesterday, Tuesday, two "old" folks had the opportunity to spend the day at your magnificent Botanic Garden. We just want to thank you for arranging the loan of the two mobility scooters so that we could comfortably view your Garden.

On Doctor's orders, we have been in self-isolation since early March - not even being able to see our family! This has put us in a very depressed state.

Being able to visit the Garden and roam around using the scooters was like having been awarded "Get out of Jail Free" cards. Freedom is indeed a precious thing which is not fully appreciated until we are denied it!

We felt truly blessed by having beautiful surroundings, lovely weather, fresh air and a time to relax and forget about the pandemic. Your Garden is such a beautiful sight, and must be even more magical come springtime."

Garden Discovery Tours

Relax and enjoy the ride on one of our weekly guided tours in the comfort of our electronic buggy, provided by the Friends of Wollongong Botanic Garden.

Group bookings also available on request.
